This passion project kept thousands of people active across 6 cities during the pandemic while raising $7,500 for local chairities.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
What is RAIDX?
RAIDX is a racing platform and events company that organized virtual multidisciplinary races during the COVID-19 Pandemic. For each race, participants had to plan their route to capture the most checkpoints.
What was my contribution?
This was my passion project that I built to keep people social and active while staying safe from COVID-19. I designed the brand, product, marketing, and website. My friend Alex Nguyen developed the iOS and Android apps.
What was the outcome?
In two short months, we designed and launched the apps which brought together hundreds of people to race across Toronto. 24 events later, we wrapped up this project by powering New York’s most well known bike messenger race.

THE SOLUTION
Since this was a passion project and all, I decided to combine my love of maps with my expertise of designing apps to create virtual “amazing race” style that can be launched anywhere in the world
Discover & Sign Up to Local Racing Events
We organized multiple races each month which happened in various cities from coast to coast.
We partnered with like-minded brands to offer cool prizes for the top teams and individuals.
Everything from registration, to team creation, and payments was done in the app.
Race to Capture Digital Checkpoints
The goal of each race was to capture the most amount of checkpoints before the time runs out.
To help stop the spread of COVID-19, participants could start anywhere and at any time.
Participants had to choose the best route while testing their navigation skills to win.
Follow Participants from Anywhere
Every participant was displayed on the map and ranked on the leader board in real time.
Some participants had GoPros that were streaming their Point of View live for anyone in the world to see.
To ensure a quick feedback loop, each participant filled out a feedback comment at the end.
THE FIRST EVENT
On October 12, 2020 participants were invited to compete by either running or cycling around the city. The goal was simple, the team that captures the most checkpoints wins!
Running Course
The running course was held in beautiful High Park, Toronto. Twenty Checkpoints were scattered around the park which took participants through routes they didn’t even know existed.
Cycling Course
The cycling course took place through Toronto’s East end. 90% of the course was along bike routes that kept each participant safe from cars, obstacles, and pedestrians.
THE MAGICAL MOMENT
All while all other sporting events were cancelled, we were able to safely bring people together and keep them active. The best part of it all was seeing friends and strangers come together and rediscover their city through a unique and competitive experience.
ONE YEAR OF EVENTS LATER
The first event in Toronto made it obvious that the demand for these events was stronger than ever before. Since all the checkpoints were digital, we were able to launch other events across the continent at a click of a button.
6 Cities
We collaborated with local governments to launch in cities across the continent
23 Events
Participants were taken through the most beautiful parts of their cities
$7,500+ Raised
All the revenue from these events were donated to local and national charities
